Weather and seasons in New Zealand

Seasons

Seasons are defined by certain weather types; however during any season New Zealand's weather can change dramatically.

Like many other countries, New Zealand experiences 4 distinct seasons.

Weather

Weather conditions tend to have a big impact on travel plans so it's best to be flexable. This is particularly important when organising hiking, fishing, skiing or other outdoor activities.
As a general rule, if it is raining on the west coast, it'll be fine and sunny on the east coast and vice versa. Always take the safe option, be informed and be prepared!

Climate

New Zealand's climate is primarily affected by the oceans and mountains. The north has a warmish sub-tropical climate; the south tends to be colder due to it's mountain ranges & grographical location.
