Queenstown Travel Information

Queenstown is located in the middle to bottom half of the South Island of New Zealand. The region is known as the "Lakes District", which is part of incredibly beautiful Central Otago. Queenstown’s scenery is uniquely stunning, showing off the New Zealand Southern Alps and Lake Wakatipu.

Queenstown has a reputation as the adventure capital of the world, you can choose to join in or watch the massive selection of safe, breath-taking activities.

Choose from year-round activities such as Bungy Jumping at the world's first commercial bungy site, swooping and soaring in your own controllable "rocket", white water raft or surf, jet boat down canyons, tandem hang glide or parapente, paragliding, skydiving, rally car rides, horse trekking, tramping, fishing, hunting, long walks, four wheel drive treks, or lunch on a majestic steamboat.

Winter activities include skiing, snowboarding, snowmobile adventures and helicopter flights over the snow covered Remarkables mountains.

Travelling south from Queenstown along the edge of Lake Wakatipu, then west will bring you to Te Anau. From Te Anau, you have the choice of 2 fantastic sounds, the famous Milford Sound and the less well-known Doubtful Sound (Ten times larger than Milford Sound). Milford and Doubtful sounds are an unspoiled wilderness of many moods, one minute clear, blue and sun drenched, the next mysterious and mist shrouded.
